SBR Technologies designs and oversees the creation of the first full-scale SBR to biologically treat hazardous organics from a hazardous waste disposal site
Challenge
SBR Technologies, Inc. was hired by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for the construction of a full scale Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) at CECOS International’s hazardous waste disposal site in Niagara Falls, New York. The purpose was to treat up to 250,000 gallons of contaminated wastewater per day at the CECOS hazardous waste site.
SBR Technologies Solution
SBRT designed the SBR at CECOS to treat up to 250,000 gallons of contaminated wastewater per day. This became the first full-scale biological treatment facility designed to remove organics from a hazardous waste disposal site.
Benefits Achieved
Through a continued relationship with SBRT, CECOS International recogized significant utility and cost savings of using the SBR process to biologically treat hazardous organics. These cost savings were recognized by the Office of Technology Assessment in its April 1985 report titled Superfund Strategy, which described the SBR as an innovative technology for the treatment of hazardous wastes.
