SBR Technologies (SBRT) was hired to perform the day-to-day technical operation of an EPA Test & Evaluation Facility. For SBRT, this work included conducting and providing technical support of the research, development and demonstration studies.

SBRT's role was to conduct research, and the development and demonstration studies based directly on the assigned directive. Specific duties included:

Project design and project specific literature review or technology assessment
Engineering analyses
Project specific health and safety plans
Equipment and process design
Bench and pilot-scale water, wastewater, and solid waste treatment studies
Permit and compliance requirements under which the T&E operates or those incidental to ongoing facility-specific research studies

As a result of SBRT's work on this project, SBRT continues to participate in various research studies that have arisen over growing concerns of the potential hazardous effects of hormonally active compounds, commonly called endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs), on human health and ecological well-being. Current projects include:

SBRT is developing new methods of measuring EDCs in liquids associated with publicly owned treatment works (POTWs). The results from this project will be used to measure EDC influents and effluents from several POTWs in Ohio as part of the EPA's larger effort to manage the risks associated with environmental releases of EDCs.
SBRT's engineers are evaluating the fate and transport of endocrine disrupters and their by-products as a result of various drinking water processes. Various treatment technologies being evaluated include conventional, granular activated carbon, nanofiltration, etc.
